At the end of May, I undertook a little facial maintenance with my lovely laser therapist, Melissa at Disappear Ltd in Milton Keynes. Melissa is removing my hideous tattoo, and I’ve become a bit obsessed with all the other little bits and bobs she does there for skin rejuvenation. I started with a session of Meso Vytal micro needling. One month on, and with two very sunny weeks in Florida and the Caribbean in between, I’m still pretty pleased with the results. I found the Meso Vytal very good for evening out my skin tone (I have quite a lot of Melasma – skin pigmentation, especially across my forehead), and with daily application of a good quality sunblock, I was feeling good about my skin. Good enough, I told her, to go without foundation ALL THE TIME – unheard of for me.
This time, I had a go at the revolutionary new ClearLift – billed as a ‘facelift in a lunchtime’ (you can see the video here). I don’t think I need an ACTUAL facelift, but anything that promises to plump up and even out your skin has to be worth a go, right?
My grasp of scientific stuff not being brilliant, I’ll just try and pass on what Melissa said to me in simple terms. She uses the same laser that she uses for my tattoo removal, but with a totally different head. It’s completely painless – all you feel is a slight tingle… She showed me how it works on my arm – pressed against the skin, you don’t feel anything, but if she pulls the laser away, the heat increases and you can see lots of little dots (it also cracks very loudly if it encounters you arm hairs, as I found out!). So basically, it misses the top layer of skin, but drills little holes or ‘sub dermal wounds’ about 3mm under the skin.
Your skin then rushes to repair these wounds, increasing its supply of collagen (that anti-aging elixir that decreases as we age) to the area, which plumps up the skin and well, I guess, dilutes any areas of pigment with new skin.
The therapy is quick – over in about 20 minutes – with no down time or recovery. My face was a bit pink afterwards but then, as you’ll see below – my face is always a bit pink!
24 hours later and I’m already confident enough to post a big no make-up picture – a miracle in itself… I can’t even explain why, but to me, my 44 year old skin looks great – my nose to mouth lines have almost completely vanished, and the fine lines around my eyes have completely vanished. Admittedly I’m freckly after quite a lot of time in the sun, but the skin is smooth and plumped. I’m loving the results!
I like this one better than the Meso Vytal – only because it’s quicker and less scratchy – I’m also now working on sleeping on my back or on the other side of my face to even out the lines I’m creating!
Melissa recommends a couple of sessions of ClearLift to achieve the best results, and then maybe yearly maintenance visits. I really feel like I’ve found the treatment that suits me and will update this in a few days’ time as the skin repair really starts to kick in to show you if there’s much change.
