One of our biggest stress points is our morning routine. The boys often have to be up early, and Charlie has to catch an early bus from a nearby town on two days a week. They always hit snooze and go back to sleep and ALWAYS insist on squeezing in a shower, even if they’re already late. It drives me crackers. I absolutely hate it when they rush out without eating.
This week we’ve been testing Up & Go, a new product from Australia. It’s the number one breakfast over there and is now available in the UK. When we unwrapped the little cartons, I was quite surprised – I think I was expecting some sort of yoghurty thing you had to eat with a spoon, but nope – there’s a straw attached and you literally just drink it. It’s malty and milkshakey and each carton contains wholegrain oats and apparently as much fibre, calcium and protein as your standard bowl of breakfast cereal, BUT you can drink it in the car on the way to school, on the train to uni, and – yes I’ve tested it – in bed.
The boys suffers constantly from tonsilitis and we discovered an unexpected bonus in that they’re very easy and comforting to sip when you’re not feeling great and really don’t feel like eating.
We’ve now tried all the flavours and there are some favourite ones already: Mr E likes the iced coffee flavour, Charlie loves the chocolate one, Sam likes the fruity strawberry and mixed berry flavours, I like the banana and honey (I love anything banana flavoured) and the vanilla too.
Our verdict? Fabulous. A handy way and quick way to get everyone eating (drinking!) breakfast. Look out for them!
