As you might know, it was my birthday over the Easter weekend. One of the things I was determined to do was head out for a family meal with NO EXCUSES (we make so many plans only for the boys to suddenly remember that they have to be somewhere else or they’re double booked) with my Dad. We love Pizza Express for relaxed family dinners, so we booked there for Easter Saturday to celebrate and try out their new spring menu.
It was so nice to have everyone together. They’ve got some yummy new menu options, so we sipped a cool glass of Watermelon Chill while we made our choices:
My Dad and his wife both chose the classic Italian combo of Prosciutto Crudo and fresh honeydew melon:
And quite a few of us greedy ones chose the new antipasto for one (£7.75) – who wants to share anyway? Totally overrated.
I was DYING to try the new Hawaiian pizza. It’s always been my favourite (I’m a big fan of the sweet/savoury combo) and this was a very modern update on the classic, with a delicious tangy pineapple chutney, rather than chunks of pineapple:
We also dived in and tried some of the new sides: the new coleslaw, creamy with just a hint of chipotle spice, and the scrummy potato nocciola, which, frankly, we nearly fought over: fluffy, baked potato balls smothered in cheese. Oh my word…
Yum. I need to go back, because, well, it was my birthday and I’d been bought a rather gorgeous cake, which meant I didn’t get to try the new passionate mess dessert – a fresh, tropical take on the traditional Eton mess, with passionfruit cream and broken meringue on a biscuit base.
Such a wonderful end to a fabulous birthday. Did you see my gift from Mr E, by the way? After my wedding ring floated off my finger in the sea in Brittany several years ago, I’ve battled on without one (I know, right? Tragic) and I got a beautiful rose gold replacement – in fact two beautiful replacements:
What a lovely evening. Massive thanks to my lovely family and to the awesome staff at Pizza Express too for making my birthday dinner absolutely magical – the staff are always so lovely and friendly.
