Since arriving back from Orlando on Thursday, we’ve really noticed how autumnal it seems to have become in just that short period. Our gorgeous parrotia tree, experiencing its first autumn in the garden, is now aflame with orange, coral and red, showing off its glorious, glowing colours every time I’m at the kitchen sink, and there’s a new nip in the air that I’m certain wasn’t there when we left. Still, I’m happy to be spending a few days snuggling at home before I jet off on my next adventure, and top of my weekend wishlist are some delicious, autumnal interiors: scented candles, soft throws, plump cushions and more (I need all the comfort after the trauma of waving Charlie off to university). Here are a few bits I’m loving right now:
Anthropologie always have fabulous scented candles. These sumptuous gold mercury moonglow candles come in different shapes and sizes. The extra large (a huge 58 oz), at the back of this pic, comes in a gorgeous-sounding mulled wine scent (£58) with ‘orange, cinnamon, vanilla, leather and cedar’, and the little one (4oz, £16) comes in a scent called heirloom pumpkin, with ‘fresh pumpkin puree, roasted almond, Mirabelle plum, toasted clove, saffron, peach, caramel, white musk, Madagascar vanilla’. Yum.
Sticking with Anthro, check out this Anthro Ansley rug – Our sofas are permanently covered in various throws (you can see one of them here), mainly for protection from muddy whippet feet, and I love the rich colours and those pompoms! Adorable.
John Lewis has some fabulous Scandi-inspired interiors at the moment (did I mention that I’ve just written the original recipes and contributed photos for a fab new book, Nordic Style? More of this soon). I’m still obsessed with copper and love the look of this Albus twisted table lamp. The shade is actually black but when the lamp is lit, it glows with a warm light. Just gorgeous:
We’ve been looking everywhere for a Scandi-looking accent chair to fill a bare spot next to the fireplace in our living room. I love this Hendricks accent chair, but sadly the wood is too dark. I’m holding out hope that John Lewis bring out a lighter wood version. It’s got that perfect mid-century look about it and even the material is perfect. Keeping everything crossed.
I love everything about Ralph Lauren (their Bicester Village store is fabulous if you’re ever in the area). Their scented candles are great quality, beautifully packaged and last for ages (the 9.5oz candle has a burn time of 63 hours). Try the Joshua Tree scent: a heady mix of tobacco flower, patchouli, sandalwood and vanilla. My favourite, though is the scent called Jamaica – I know, you wouldn’t think it was autumnal in any way, but although it’s tropical and floral, the mandarin orange and warm musk notes make it smell velvety, somehow. It’s rich and comforting.
And finally, I’m really undecided about cushions – for ages I’ve coveted furry ones for winter, but now I’m not so sure. I actually like the slightly cleaner look of these knitted striped cushions from the Loft range at M & S.
What about you? Do you change your interiors through the seasons?
