Wait, where has the sun gone? Was that little flurry of warm days the summer? Did we miss it? We had such a lovely couple of days in the garden and isn’t it wonderful when it’s so balmy that you can actually sit outside in the evening? We went to one of my favourite stores, Homesense, who’ve got lots of lovely bits to transform your garden, all at up to 60% less than the RRP, and got a few things to update our space. What’s nicer than dining outside with the family, and then relaxing into the evening with twinkly lights and a flickering fire? Here are my top buys for al fresco dining with Homesense:
Our house is a relatively new build, and the garden is a quite boring square of grass, so we’ve been trying hard recently to plant some shrubs and trees to bring it to life a bit. Last weekend, while we were trying out our teeny tiny barbecue, we decided to find a fire pit. I’ve wanted a chiminea or something similar for absolutely ages, and we spotted this mega stylish metal one, which we loaded with dry pine cones and some herbs, as well as some barbecue coals. This weekend, I’m going to go and get some proper dry wood to store for next time:
For dining al fresco, we picked up some pretty coloured glasses, and I absolutely love these Turkish hamman towels, which I buy loads of and use for everything from napkins to face cloths to dish cloths in various colours.
To brighten up the chairs, I picked up a few lovely new cushions. I’m obsessed with flamingos, so these were absolutely perfect (Miss Lyra approves), also check out the long glass platter. For an easy dessert, I dotted scoops of ice cream all along the platter, then added chocolate shavings and strawberries (top). So easy, but very pretty.
We also got this really lovely cream parasol, which was a total bargain at £25. We strung it with these pretty battery operated jar lights, and as the sun went down, the effect was just gorgeous:
We sat chatting long into the night, watching the glowing embers die down, sipping dessert wine and enjoying the warm evening. Heaven. I can’t wait for the lovely weather to return so we can do it all again.
All items (except whippet) from Homesense. My top tip is to keep popping in, because there’s new stock arriving all the time. Find your closest store at www.homesense.com – ooh and also, if you’re a lover of the odd pineapple or flamingo, I suggest you have a look at the new tropical items in store!
