Alcohol to calories convertor: prepare to be horrified

Bleurgh

So this is fab, via Glitter, a rather nifty little gadget that calculates the junk food equivalent of what you drank last night.

For the sake of full disclosure I would like to point out that the three large glasses of Jacob’s Creek Sparkling Shiraz that I had (what?  I was testing fizz for our anniversary party) had the calorific equivalent of:

1 onion bhaji

1 slice of pizza

1 doughnut

2 jaffa cakes

Honestly, though.  I’d rather have the booze than that crap.  Anyone else care to fess up their calorific equivalents?

Yup, already fessed up mine on Twitter – I join you in an onion bhaji, a slice of pizza and a doughnut and a jaffa cake but raise you a Danish pastry too..
Actually the wine was crap so would have merrily traded for the bhaji..

  2. English Mum says:

Jane: Nice ‘fessing! Trouble is, once you’ve had the wine you crave all the calorific stuff too, so probably double the calories in the process. Scary :)

  3. Jennifer (Bert's No 1 Fan!) says:

I only had slice of pizza :) Wooohoooo!!!

  4. English Mum says:

Jen: You’re far too angelic. I’m impressed x

  5. Growup says:

    Apparently I drank a doughnut.

  6. Had nothing last night but 6 kir royales on Saturday night were equal to a hot dog, a doghnut and an onion bajhi! Not bad but would have preferred the food!

  7. English Mum says:

Growup: That seems somewhat abstemious. Are you sure it was just the one, Mrs Wembley?

Rach: Ooh I love Kir Royales. We’re testing fizz non stop at the moment. Wonder if it would matter if you made Kir Royale with fizzy pinot noir?? x

  8. jennynib says:

Aha! Growup! I had a doughnut too! ;)

And a nice refreshing Pinot Grigio Doughnut it was too.. ‘Fact, I think I’ll have ANOTHER doughnut tonight! :)

  9. Glitterkitty says:

if i’m in a bit of a rush going from just home to going out, i’ll often deliberatly not eat cos i know i’ll be ‘eating’ so many alcoholic calories anyway.. needless to say, this isn’t the solution either..

why is yummy alcohol so fattening? no fair!!

  10. Not at all mrs!! Lidl had cassis for 7.99 a bottle a couple of weeks ago! Kir royales all the way!

  11. I don’t drink much, so I’ll take the jaffa cakes, thanks very much.

  12. I am too scared to look, as I had both the alcohol (cider- blah – but still good stuff, did the trick) and the pizza last night. Not feeling the best today!

  13. Littlemummy says:

I would EM, but as you know, I don’t drink.

  14. Townygirl says:

last night i just had a whisky n coke. which is an onion bhaji and two jaffa cakes. however, if you were to ask me to add up on monday morning for the whole weekend, i’d say a family size takeaway plus 90 jaffa cakes!

  15. English Mum says:

Jen: A Pinot Grigio doughnut – I like it! Won’t stop me either though, sadly x

Glitter: Tut tut. I can’t drink on an empty stomach as I talk shite and fall over. True story.

Rach: Great idea. Shall do my bestest PR trick on the Hubby tonight and sell it well, thanks x

DBM: I love Jaffas. Even the Tesco’s own version will suffice in a crisis. Can you get them there?

  16. English Mum says:

Aussie: Disgraceful – and I thought you were such a good girl too ;) Mind you, at least the pizza absorbs a bit of the alcohol eh?! x

LM: Ah yes, I forgot about that. Sorry – this post doesn’t apply to you then

Towny: Blimey. Heavy weekend then?! Makes you think how much it all adds up though, doesn’t it.

  17. Moon says:

Not going to look, if I don’t know, it doesn’t count ….

  18. Chris says:

Not sure I want to know all of this info!!

  19. English Mum says:

Moon: Tell you what, it does make you realise how many empty calories you drink… I’m off for a sparkling water and a slice of lime… x

Chris: Ah come on now, join in already. How many pizzas have you consumed this week so far?! :)

  20. Moon says:

Bollocks to that …. Beer please .. and not the ‘lite’ rubbish you have in your fridge !!!!

  21. Laura Driver says:

I didn’t drink last night … but I drank a LOT on the Saturday night out with the girls.

I put my drinks into the calculator and I am ashamed so am keeping schtum.

  22. If I’d been out drinking I’d come home and eat a ton of junk food as well! Does it count if you can’t remember it in the morning? Surely not!

  23. Yes, I can get Jaffas, so long as I pay the exorbitant price. Still, you have to treat yourself once in a while, don’t you?

  24. English Mum says:

Moon: Okay, so I might have had a couple of glasses of wine last night (that’s a hot dog and an onion bhaji apparently) – that’s practically healthy! Not sure about ‘lite’, I think there’s MGD in there at the mo’ x

  25. English Mum says:

Laura: Oh dear, that bad? Must have been a shocker!! x

Rosie: No, I think you’re safe if you have no recollection of it

DBM: Oh absolutely, especially where Jaffa cakes are concerned – and they’re one of few things that really are better out of a packet x

  26. Baino says:

OK I might be in denial but I did the Weight Watcher’s point system once and had 28 points each day and a bottle of white wine was 7 points . . .non carb vegies are free . .so . . living on broccoli and Jacobs Creek wasn’t too bad until the constipation took over! And I don’t believe for a minute that a large slice of greasy, cheesy, meaty pizza is more than a bottle of schparkly . .lies propagated by the fast food industry!

  27. Taffy's Mum says:

I had the calories but as a take-away meal and no alcohol – will it convert the other way?!

  28. English Mum says:

Baino: That’s exactly what I said to Hubby. I remember doing that Rosemary Conley one once and I appreciate that was all 80s and fat free and stuff, but you could have 2 glasses of wine a night! x

TM: No. And that’s very smug and virtuous of you. That is all.

  29. Keiron says:

Give me a large glass of almost anything over Jaffa cakes anyday of the week – they’re horrible – Chocolate Orange sits in the same category!

  30. English Mum says:

Keiron: Nooooo I love chocolate orange even more than jaffas! Send over any you get as gifts won’t you ?! x
