Honestly, I don’t know how it happened.  One minute Jen was telling us about the little scrap that a lovely paramedic (hello Willie!!) found wandering alone on the Curragh and brought back to the station house, and next thing, #2 and I are whizzing down to meet Jen at Maynooth (’oops, shit - did that turning say Blanchardstown?  Quick, u-turn!!’) to pick up our new foster baby.

And don’t let that cute little face fool you.  So far, she’s emitted more…er…emissions than you can shake a stick at, vandalised my sofa, dangled from my curtains, dragged several pairs of trainers into her bed and traumatised poor Bert into submission.  She loves, adores and worships Bert, who, for his part, is denying her existence completely - even yesterday when she was hanging happily by her razor sharp puppy teeth from his bottom lip - she’s just not there, okay?

As for the name?  Well, Lou and I quite liked Aussie’s suggestion of Bella, but Hubby and the smalls didn’t.  So then we went round the houses:

‘Lily? ‘

Nah.

‘Rosie?’

No.

‘Daisy?’

No.

‘Billie?’

Oooh we quite like that.

‘Onion?’ (everyone turns to #1 with a ‘don’t be silly’ expression)

Nope.

‘Pinot?  Merlot? Moet!’

Nope.

‘Ow! F*cker!’

Er…we certainly can’t call her that.

‘Morgan? Stella?’ (Hubby and I are getting into the alcoholic names now)

Nah.

‘Butter?’ (#1 again).

No.

‘Marge?’

Too Simpsons.

‘AJ?’

Too Disreputable.

So anyway, she’s ‘Thing’ or ‘The Puppy’ at the moment.  Watch this space.

  2. Ahhh - so sweet! Want one. :) I agree with Tara on Scout. Mischievous and inquisitive. Sounds just right! Have fun with the new addition. x

  4. Scout sounds about right to me!

Doesn’t she look like Bert’s puppy? Hmmm.. he wasn’t bowsying around Kildare a couple of months ago, was he?

Gazillions of Thanks to Willie and his gorgeous Missus, who are having their first baby in two weeks. They haded her over - very reluctantly, I might add - with a new basket, a bag of treats and one of Milady’s slippers!

    Spoilt!

  6. Hails thanks also– just saw yours– maybe I could be a professional namer of some sort?

  7. Sprout? You’ve been adopted again!

  8. Tara: Maisy! I love that. x

Hails: You’re welcome, she’s wrecking the joint!

Georgina: Welcome! Aw she’s so cute - she’s kicking Bert’s arse most of the time - typical girl! I like Missy too. Hubby’s not going to allow any kind of ‘girly’ name though because he reckons he won’t dare ever call her in public!

    PS: You’re married to a hero!! x

Jen: Yeh, I don’t mind Scout. I hate to tell you but she’s currently being called ‘The Flea’ (complete with heavy Mexican accent) after a kids’ cartoon called Mucha Lucha

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_%C2%A1Mucha_Lucha%21_characters

Well, she had quite a few..er..visitors!

(PS: Georgina? Better get some flea spray, just in case!)

Tara: Hmmm…I don’t know - I like it, but I can’t see myself called ‘Scout, come here’ across the GAA pitch!

June: Sprout? Hee hee! I like that too. Yep. I keep telling the boys it’s only until she’s big enough to have a proper home (it’s Bert’s only hope), but they’re not buying it.

  10. Georgina: Up close and personal with ‘Da Flea’? Ew. Poor Shady, her breath’s terrible!!

    Comment by englishmuminireland — June 29, 2008 @ 5:30 pm

  11. ha ha,thankfully shady was in her run and “flea” was nuzzling in through the bars as best she could..very funny looking at the 2 of them chasing each other..

  12. Much cuteness! And it looks like Bert is getting on with her, so that’s a plus.

On the name front… I’m stumped. Scout sounds good though. Or how about something food-related?

  13. It’s a doggy weekend alright. Very cute and you’re very brave. Puppys are such pests until they’re about two! Lock up your shoesies.Love the snuggly photo!

    Comment by Baino — June 29, 2008 @ 8:33 pm

  14. Awww!!! But how come you didn’t know that greyhound pups are complete hooligans? ROFL! Kudos to darling Bert for putting up with her shenanigans!

Pretty little thing, ain’t she? Maybe she should be called ‘Missy’ - short for Mischief.

    Comment by Jay — June 29, 2008 @ 9:42 pm

  15. Toldjaso! Toldjaso!! Now Bertie has a buddie, albeit a midget monster for now but she’ll sprout up in no time and then I wager you will NOT be parting with her! What a cutie! Bless all concerned for scooping her out of harms way.

  16. Call it “Stay” ………

Come Stay …….Come Stay ………… marvellous, confuse the hound forever !!

  17. ‘Scout’ seems to win. That pic was perfect.

I’m about to hunt for #2 puppy myself. I’m looking for one with smaller feet and flat teeth…

  18. One vote cast for ‘Missy’!

    :)

  19. Awwww what a cutie! Can she come live with me for a while? William would love a playmate!
(Don’t think OH would approve though :( )

    Comment by Taffy's Mum — June 30, 2008 @ 9:20 am

  20. Georgina: Ooh, don’t tell M the trainer that she got up close and personal with a wabbit - not good for business!

Wee One: I wanted food-related names but was outvoted. She’s still nameless. Oh and poor Bert - he’s completely traumatised!

Baino: Hmmm, indeed - she’s almost as big as their trainers but insists on lugging them around by the laces! A sharp ‘no!’ makes her sit down and sulk (for about two minutes) :)

Jay: Aw, I love ‘Missy’ but am outvoted by the boys as it’s ‘too girly’. And yes, she’s a total hoolie. She’s like a little Tasmanian Devil - rushes around like a loony for ten minutes then collapses in a heap wherever she drops!

Susan: You’re so right. Bless Willie and Georgina for taking her in. Guardian angels indeed.

Moon: K8 the Great’s dog is called ‘Wouldye’. Hours of entertainment there: ‘Wouldye come here… Wouldye fetch the ball’… love it.

    Jen: See above. Sadly.

TM: She’s yours! BTW: how long did they take to get used to each other? Bert is MISERABLE.

  21. PUPPPPPPPPYYYYYYYYYYY!!!!!!!! *Totally freaks out*

    I LOVE her! She’s so pretty!! :)

    Comment by SleepyJane — June 30, 2008 @ 10:29 am

  22. Sleepy: She is absolutely adorable. And don’t puppies smell gorgeous too? Unfortunately she comes with those unadorable puppy traits: a perpetual leaky rear end and evil teeth! x

    Comment by englishmuminireland — June 30, 2008 @ 11:00 am

  23. Maud or Gertie. (the names of our boxers but good solid names all the same. And just think, Bert and Maud… what a lovely couple)!

  24. Taz?

    Comment by jennynib — June 30, 2008 @ 11:24 am

  25. Nutty: Aw, I love both. My Grandma was Maudie and my Auntie was Gert - both mad as badgers!!

Jen: Definitely. In fact, she’s being called that rather a lot already!!

    Comment by englishmuminireland — June 30, 2008 @ 12:06 pm

  26. I wouldn’t say my two are best of friends but they tolerated each other from the beginning. I only get the odd growl if one is disturbed from a deep sleep!

As for the leakage problem - I can sympathise, William went a while with no problems (I think it was the threat of contacting J for advice) until last week when I came home from work to puddles in my dining room and around the toilet :( (Thank goodness for laminate flooring!)

    Comment by Taffy's Mum — June 30, 2008 @ 1:28 pm

  27. TM: Oh dear, poor William. They seem very erm…emotional if that’s the right word. I’ll email you for some advice if that’s okay xx

  28. I’ve been off the blog radar for the last few weeks but what great news!!!! She’s adorable, but I understand that crazy puppy side too…. looking innocent is so different from being innocent!

    Comment by Ruth E — July 16, 2008 @ 6:02 pm

  29. Ah Ruth - she’s gone to Jenny’s kennels. Very cute but sent Bert into a hunger strike I’m afraid x
