A shining star of wonderful gorgeousness

The Friday Photo: Lights! Camera! Er… fractions!

So, there was much excitement at the schoool this week.  The children were strangely interested in being at school early and, frankly, I didn’t blame them.  An enormous film crew descended upon the 200 year old pile, magically taking it back in time to the 1930s.  It was really quite bizarre, when picking up your children, to bump into a 1930s schoolgirl, complete with bobbed hair and pinafore dress, or park up next to a beautiful old car on the drive.

The far end of the cricket pitch was a mass of trailers, catering wagons and trucks full of equipment, and the fellas tell me that some of the interior was repainted and altered as well.  They’re miffed that it was supposed to be a girl’s boarding school as some of the senior girls got paid (yes!  Paid actual money!) to be extras (‘and they got to use the catering wagon’ added #2, huffily).  I did, I admit, have a very interesting conversation with one of the make-up ladies (who let me have a look in her see through make-up bag… woohoo!) so I could tell you what film it is that they were shooting, which incredibly famous and rather beautiful actress is starring and who the director is, but sadly I would imagine it’s top secret so I’d have to kill you.

    Hi there EM,

Love your blog but I’m disappointed with the Friday photo….where’s Bert???!!!

  2. Deborah says:

How cool is that! Are you really not going to tell? Boo!

  3. Jay says:

But we NEED TO KNOW!!!!! Is Johnny Depp in it? If so, get the guest bed ready, I’m on my way!!!

I’m sure I have an old school pinafore somewhere…

  4. I demand pics of hot actress types! I was crushed when I happened to be away at boarding school for the filming of Excalibur in Cahir Castle. Completely missed seeing everyone in they medieval gear and film equipment. Now pics. Or I’ll be off to look up fast times at ridgemont high on youtube.

  5. Well, when I went to the cinema to watch “Run Fatboy, Run”, a somewhat amusing English film, I was jolted out of my irritation at the number of ads and trailers they show before a film by the sight of my old school in one of those trailers. I didn’t actually believe it was my school – well, there must be lots of schools that look similar, and there were only brief flashes of it, but when I got home I googled it, and there it was – the chapel, the biology block, the chemistry lab and all. I think the film has been released here now – I shall have to go and see it.

  6. Jennifer: Welcome! Your wish is my command x

Deb: Err…okay, here’s some clues. Ex Bond Girl…character was named after a moped…

Jay: Nah, don’t think so. The girls look lovely in their old fashioned dresses and hats. I offered my services but sadly they turned me down. Their loss.

Thrifty: I did lurk with my camera but then got all self conscious. I’ll have another go next week, never fear. Ooh Excalibur, now there’s a cracking film. x

Bugs: Coincidence, myself and the short ones watched that very film the other day. I’ll have to watch it again slowly now…. although I’m not sure I’d know the inside of your old school…maybe the outside though? x

  7. Oops, just noticed I was so excited writing this post that I put an extra o in school. Oops. And now I’ve noticed and commented I can’t change it or it won’t make sense. Damn my starstruck digits.

  8. Ruth E says:

Wow! That would be so much fun! I bet the kids feel all special cos they’re filming at their school.

  9. wee jen says:

Much excitement! I’d be the one standing around on the edge gawping. Love all the buzz of those situations (although I bet it’s bloody hard work).

My old school is now an Italian restaurant and a block of flats :-(

  10. Ruth: The girls that are in it are having a ball. And what a fantastic thing to tell your kids – I was in a film when I was little!

Jen: Mine’s still standing, sadly. It’s been renamed but I bet they still smoke in the locker rooms!
